Breast Augmentation Chicago & Breast Enlargement
In the video above, one of our patients, Kelly, describes what led her to her decision to have a breast augmentation and why she chose Chicago’s experienced surgeons at the Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute for her breast enhancement surgery.
Breast augmentation is a breast enlargement process usually performed to enlarge small, underdeveloped breasts or breasts that have decreased in size after pregnancy.
Also known as part of Mommy makeover, boob job, breast augmentation by saline or silicone implants. The true medical term for this procedure is Augmentation Mammaplasty. In Latin,”mamma” means breast, and “pasty” is derived from Greek origin meaning molding, shaping, hence mammaplasty, or “shaping breasts”.
Breast augmentation can also be performed in cases of breast deformity, or where one breast has not developed in proper symmetry with the other. When a breast is lost due to breast cancer, breast enhancement through reconstruction may also be possible.
There are several types of incision techniques that can be considered for breast enlargement or breast augmentation. The incision type used generally depends on the surgeon’s technique. Once the incision is made, the surgeon will lift the breast tissue up to create a pocket. This pocket will either be under the breast tissue or underneath the chest wall muscle. Once the pocket is created, the surgeon will insert a breast implant. Traditionally, this procedure has been accomplished by using a silastic containing a silicone gel. However, there have been concerns raised about the safety of silicone implants. While further research is being done, new patients desiring breast augmentation or breast enhancement are restricted to saline-filled implants.
What does Chicago breast augmentation cost?
$4500- $7500 depending on the type of implant (saline or silicone), but the price is not affected by chosen implant size.
What is breast augmentation?

Dr. Leon Forrester Tcheupdjian, M.D. was among the first to perform breast augmentation by fat injection.
How common is Chicago breast augmentation surgery?

What types of implants are approved by the FDA in the United States?
Only two types of implants are approved by the FDA for use in the United States: saline or silicone gel. The shell of both types of implants is the same; it is made from a silicone elastomer. What makes them different is the content of the implants; one is filled with saline, another with silicone.
How does the surface texture of the two implants vary?
The surface of either saline or gel breast implants can either be smooth (this is the most popular one) or textured, containing tiny rough ridges on the entire surface.
What is inside saline breast implants?
You guessed right, it is saline; physiological saline, to be more precise, made out of 0.9% sodium chloride, which is similar in composition to saltwater.
What is inside silicone gel breast implants?
Silicone. It is a highly viscous and coherent silicone gel, wherein the microscopic silicone particles are in an interconnected network dispersed in a liquid, acting as single mesh network.
What are “gummy bear” breast implants?
These teardrop shaped implants are textured implants that contain the most coherent interconnected molecules, almost forming a semi solid shape. These breast implants are manufactured by Allergan under the name Natrelle style 401™ , and Mentor corporation “Memory shape ™.
What shapes of implants are there?
Two shapes of implants exist:
- Round shape is the most popular and is considered to be the least problematic
- Tear drop shape, also called anatomical shape. This type of implant is less widely used for a number of reasons, many of which are technical.
- Most experts believe that upon standing all implants, regardless of shape, will by force of gravity assume a teardrop shape. The problem with true tear drop implants is that they can flip unexpectedly inside their pocket under the breast tissue, so you may end up with an empty space in the bottom part of the breast, and a hump-like fullness in the top. Unfortunately the only way to remedy this problem is with corrective surgery.
What are anatomical breast implants?
Another term for tear drop implants.
What is a breast implant profile?
Implant profile refers to the height of the implant relative to its width, when looking at it from the side
If you place a breast implant on a flat surface, it will have two dimensions: it’s diameter, or base, and it’s height, or projection. The profile of implant refers to it’s height, and is typically classified as low, moderate, moderate plus, high, or ultra-high profiles. The two most common profiles used by plastic surgeons in the United States are moderate plus and high profile. When a patient desires a large implant, high profiles are frequently used, to avoid the implant diameter becoming too wide for the dimensions of the patient’s breast.
Do I have to be a certain age to get saline breast implants?
Patients must be 18 years old or older
How old do I have to be to get silicone gel implants?
Patients should be 22 years old or older according to current FDA guidelines.
How long does this surgery take?
Chicago breast augmentation surgery takes between one and two hours to perform.
What type of anesthesia is used?
The final decision on the type of anesthesia to be used during breast augmentation surgery in Chicago will be made between the patient and the anesthesia team
- General anesthesia is used in the majority of cases
- Another kind of anesthesia called LMA, or Laryngeal Mask Airway, where a small mask is placed over the larynx, is also used during breast augmentation. This allows anesthesia gases to flow through the opening of the windpipe without the tube being inserted into the windpipe itself.
- Heavy intravenous sedation with local lidocaine can also be used, although this approach is less common
How long are the breast augmentation incisions?
Incisions made during augmentation mammaplasty are about one to two inches (3-6 centimeters) long, depending on the type of implant used during the procedure. Incisions for silicone gel implants tend to be a little longer than those for saline implants, since silicone implants are pre-filled, and the whole implant has to be inserted through the incision. They heal into a very fine, thin line, that may be difficult to notice a few months after the procedure, especially if an anti-scar gel is used post surgery. We offer this anti-scar gel for purchase in our office.
Where are the incisions placed?
There are three main locations where incisions are placed for a Chicago breast augmentation:
- 1) Under the breast, hidden inside the lower natural anatomical crease. This scar tends to be the most concealed one, since upon standing they are hidden by the breasts draping over them. This choice of incision is best when the patient has a well formed crease under their breast prior to surgery.
- 2) In the lower edge of the areola. This is a very thin, half-circular shape, extending between the three o’clock to nine o’clock marks in the tissue of the areola. With time the scar color blends in with the color of the areola itself, and becomes virtually invisible. This choice of incision is best for people who have a darker colored areolar area. A generous size of the areola is mandatory. This is only advised for saline and not for silicone gel implants, since silicone implant insertion requires a more generous incision length, as to avoid injuring the surface or compromising the integrity of the implant.
- 3) In the armpit (axilla). This is another great approach, and the scars are well concealed most of the time, except when wearing sleeveless clothes and raising the arms up. It is best suited for saline implants and small silicone gel implants. Since a long incision cannot be made in this area, the larger silicone gel implants will not be able to be inserted without a risk of damaging the implant.
- In summary, when using silicone gel implants, it is best to choose the under the breasts incision, while saline implants can be inserted through any approach.
Will I lose a lot of blood during surgery?
No. Typically, the total amount of blood loss during breast implant surgery is about a tablespoon, the same amount as is drawn during routine blood testing. One of the main reasons for that, in addition to meticulous bleeding control during the procedure: before surgery, the incision sites and breasts themselves are injected with a diluted epinephrine solution, which causes vasoconstriction, or narrowing of the blood vessels.
How long do breast implants last?
Breast implants are permanent. While saline implants may deflate spontaneously, modern silicone gel implants do not have that problem. The risk of deflation of saline implants increases 10-to-15 years after surgery. Know that both major breast implant manufacturers offer a lifetime replacement warranty. (The warranty covers the cost of the implants themselves, not the surgery fees in full.)
When do stitches come out?
In most cases, dissolvable stitches are used. Those do not need to be removed. As the name implies, they will dissolve themselves.
How long is the recovery after breast augmentation Chicago?
The usual length of initial recovery is three to four days. You may resume normal daily activities, including returning to work after the three to four days. However, no heavy lifting or exercise of any kind is allowed for three weeks following your surgery.
When can I shower or bathe after Chicago breast augmentation surgery?
You can shower 24-to-48 hours after surgery, but we would like you to wait about three weeks after your procedure before taking a bath, or getting into a pool or hot tub.
How soon after surgery can I have sex?
You may resume normal sexual activity about one week after your breast augmentation in Chicago, but be mindful of manipulating the breasts, or touching the incision area by you or your partner.
Will I be in a lot of pain after surgery?
The level of pain varies between patients. We call it “appreciation of pain and discomfort,” but rest assured you will be supplied with ample pain medication to keep you comfortable for a few days after your surgery. After three-to-four days, Tylenol or Motrin may become sufficient to control the pain for many patients until the pain disappears.
What are some of the risks associated with breast augmentation in Chicago?
Although very rare, some of the complications of this surgery are infection and hematoma (a small collection of blood around the implant). Neither of these side effects are life-threatening and are easily treatable once recognized. Swelling of breast tissue around the implant along with some bruising are not uncommon, but both spontaneously resolve within one-to-two weeks after surgery. Some rippling of the implant may become evident in time, especially in very thin patients. This is minimal if silicone gel implants are used. About five in 100 patients will develop a degree of hardening of the breast tissue around the implant over time. This process is known as capsular contracture. In some cases it may require return to the operating room to remove the scar tissue surrounding the implant. Overall, breast augmentation is one of the safest surgical procedures performed today.
Before the procedure: Call us at 847-259-1000 or go to LIPODOC.COM to schedule a free private consultation with one of the knowledgeable and skilled physicians at The Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute.
The basic medicine: A thorough review of your personal medical and family history, medications and allergies. The physical breast exam, which includes breast measurements, height and weight, photographic assessment and documentation will provide your physician with all the information to ensure a desired outcome. When indicated, a mammogram and appropriate blood tests will be performed.
Before surgery: You must be healthy and cannot be pregnant or breast feeding. All medical problems, such as diabetes and hypertension, must be under control, and proper medical clearance should be obtained if deemed necessary. All blood thinning medications, such as Aspirin, Coumadin, Heparin, Plavix, iBuprofen, Advil, Motrin, fish oils, Omega 3s, all herbal supplements and high doses of vitamin E should be stopped at least 10 days prior to the procedure. Also, patients should abstain from alcohol and tobacco before and after the procedure, as these can affect healing. A thorough thorax, ribcage, spine and breast examination will be performed externally to gain a precise knowledge of the anatomy of the area. Careful measurements to access volumetric asymmetries are also vital, but in the end most experts agree that breast surgery experience, finesse, and an artistic eye are more important than numbers on a sheet of paper.
The day of surgery: Several measurements and markings are placed on the skin of the breasts to mark important landmarks for the procedure. Next an IV (intravenous line) delivers Lactated Ringer’s through your veins. An IV dose of an antibiotic is administered before you are taken to the operating room as well. Once in the OR, general anesthesia will be administered and a local anesthetic is injected to the incision sites. The breasts are fully anesthetized in the area to reduce bleeding. Small inconspicuous incisions are made to gain access to either below the pectoralis major muscle or above the muscle but under the glandular breast tissue. Then a space named the “breast pocket” is created by mainly lifting and separating the layers, not cutting them. The pocket has to be proper size, large enough to accommodate the planned implant. Test implants called sizers are placed to determine the most suitable size. The pockets are irrigated with antibiotic solution and the implants are gently placed in the pockets. The small incisions are sutured with thin dissolving sutures and protective paper steri-strips are temporarily placed over the incisions. Bandages and a specialized support bra are placed on the patient.
After surgery: Rest, avoid exertion, and sleep with your head elevated for a few days. Aspirin, alcohol, and smoking are strongly discouraged after surgery. Keep the the incisions clean and dry and apply cold compresses if needed to the chest for the first day or two after your surgery.
If at any time you notice a sudden unproportional asymmetrical enlargement of one of the breasts compared to the other breast, with associated increase in pain level from that breast, please contact your physician immediately.
When do I see the final results of my Chicago breast augmentation surgery?
Six weeks after surgery and in some patients even longer, you will get a rough idea how they will look. In some patients even as long as 3 months. You need to understand that your breasts are constantly changing with time so enjoy them

Relax, give it time your body will change your implants into “SELF” if you were uneven before surgery that is your nature your body is genetically programmed and will attempt to return you back to self
The day after my breast look perfect but would passage of time one looks a little higher, do I have to worry?
Not at all. Immediately after surgery your breast will have the “surgical” look it has not had the chance to become “you” yet. Give it Time to heal and settle down.
How long does it take for the breast to settle down?
At least 3 months but internal changes are constant I mean your breasts are like the rest of your body’s parts are not frozen in time. Your breasts are always in constant move, subjected to changes of aging, hormonal upheavals and gravity. They will enlarge as you gain weight and appear deflated as you lose weight. Call it progress.

Below is a sample of some of the questions we answer on a daily basis. If you have a question that is NOT on the list below, please help us and other patients by sending your question to: LipodocBIZ@gmail.com and with gratitude we will post your question and our answer.
What are breasts made of? What is inside my breasts?
- Mammary glands. Under certain conditions and hormonal influence these glands may produce milk.
- Fat cells surrounds the glands, and it is the fat tissue that gives the breasts its smoothness, size and volume.
- Connective tissue. For the framework, structure and soft tissue support.
- Pectoralis major and pectoralis minor muscles are located between the breast and the ribcage.
- Bones and cartilage mostly.
When do breasts start to grow?
Actually breasts develop before you are born. At the onset of puberty is when most of the breast growth occurs in both boys and girls but of course in girls the growth is more pronounced.
When do breasts stop growing?
Usually by age 18 breast growth slows considerably, but rarely they may increase in size into the early 20s. After that, breasts can only enlarge if you gain weight. It is probably best to have breast surgery no sooner than two years after your overall growth has halted.
Do girls physically mature earlier than boys?
Yes, girls get a head start on puberty about one or two years before boys. Usually the development of breast buds is the first sign of puberty and precedes initial menstruation by two years.
Which hormone causes breast development?
The growth of the breast is dependent on the level sex hormone estradiol, which is one of the three major sex hormones of our body. Progesterone also contributes to development of breast size and milk production.
Will drinking more milk grow my breasts bigger?
No, according to the FDA the hormone rbGH (Recombinant bovine growth hormone) is broken down by our intestinal acids and not absorbed into our blood.
Do I need to wear bra all the time after breast implant surgery?
No, not when you sleep. But wearing a bra during the daytime to prevent your breasts from sagging is highly recommended.
Will I have stretch marks after breast augmentation?
Anything is possible, but stretch mark development is unlikely. If you have existing stretch marks, they may become more apparent after the Chicago breast augmentation surgery. In most cases they fade away with time.
I have stretch marks on my breasts, do over the counter stretch mark creams help?
The simple answer is no, not really. Only consistent moisturizing may help lessen the appearance of stretch marks.
Will I have more unsightly veins on my breasts?
Like stretch marks, if the veins preexisted then they may dilate following placement of very large implants. If the presence of the veins is unsightly the treatment of choice is usually sclerotherapy, which is safe and very effective.
What is average breast size?
It depends on your height and your body weight. There are also personal and cultural differences. In Europe 20 years ago a B cup was desirable, while now it is C cup. In the United States the C cup breast size has now been replaced by D cup as the most desired.
What is the perfect areola size?
Size of the area does not correspond to the size of the breasts, but a normal size is considered to be about one-and-one-half inches in diameter, or 38-to-42 millimeters.
What are the small bumps on the areola?
Those are tiny glands called the Montgomery glands. They produce oily fluid that keeps the nipples lubricated. During pregnancy these tiny bumps may engorge.
What do numbers like 34, 36, 38 in breast measurements mean?
These numbers are the circumference of your ribcage measured in inches. This will not change after your breast augmentation surgery in Chicago.
How much do my breasts weigh?
Each average breast is slightly over a pound in weight, but that obviously varies widely depending on the cup size.
Can exercise make my breasts larger?
No, since the pectoralis major is way below the breasts, it does not contribute to the volume of the breasts.
Can eating certain foods enlarge my breasts?
Since breasts are primarily composed of fat, eating foods that are high in carbohydrates will lead to weight gain, which will definitely enhance your bust size. Overall weight gain will be otherwise detrimental to your overall health and appearance.
Do herbal supplements enlarge my breasts?
Supplements containing plant origin estrogens known as phytoestrogens have been deemed to be ineffective and will not increase your breast size.
Are there any creams that will make my breasts larger?
No, most of them are gimmicks and will not succeed in enlarging your breasts.
When will my breasts start sagging?
No one knows for sure, but usually after the start of menopause when hormones decline, skin and connective tissue stretches and breasts begin to sag.
Why are my breasts different sizes?
Your breasts are sisters, not identical twins. It is rare for women to have exactly identical breasts. Some minor variations and asymmetry almost always exist.
What are tubular breasts?
This is a normal anatomical variation of female breasts, resulting in an elongated tubular appearance, usually considered unattractive in the United States and Europe. This may affect one or both breasts. Tubular breasts may be corrected with implants alone, however in some patients a breast lift may be required along with the breast augmentation.
I have pointy breasts and I hate them. Will breast implants make my breasts round?
Yes, usually breast implants will correct and improve the appearance of small pointy breasts.
After having babies my breasts look empty. Can breast implants make my breasts perky again?
Yes, absolutely. Restoring the volume of your breasts, which has been lost after pregnancy and breast-feeding is the main purpose of breast augmentation in Chicago.
My breast size and shape are uneven, can you make them exactly, perfectly even?
Even though breast implants help correct uneven breast sizes, occasionally it may take more than one surgery to achieve ideal symmetry. Nevertheless, there are no guarantees and, like most cosmetic surgery, the final result is an improvement, not perfection.
What are inverted nipples?
This is an abnormal retraction of the nipple that may affect one or both breasts. Please refer to the appropriate section of our website for treatment options.
Where do you place the implants?
There are only two choices, either underneath the pectoralis major muscles or above the muscles, directly under the breast tissue. The choice depends on your anatomy and should be discussed with your surgeon.
Which placement of the implants is more painful?
Submuscular placement tends to be slightly more uncomfortable for a few days after surgery. In our practice, we irrigate the space where the implant will be positioned with local anesthetic lidocaine to alleviate some of the post operative discomfort and provide our patients with appropriate pain medication to make your recovery as comfortable as possible.
Can you make my incision scars go away and disappear?
Yes, there are methods of reducing the appearance of the scars after breast surgery. However, scars do not disappear completely.
Can I go braless after breast implants?
We usually advise our patients to wear a supportive bra around the clock for the first week following breast augmentation surgery. After the first week you may sleep without the bra but continue wearing one during the day. In general, it is a good idea to wear a supportive bra after breast augmentation to prevent potential sagging, or bottoming out, of the implants.
Will I have cleavage after breast implants?
Yes, usually you will end up with deeper and more defined cleavage after your procedure.
When can I go sun tanning, indoor or outdoor, after breast augmentation in Chicago?
Not until the incision has healed, which usually takes a full two weeks, but we advise you to always cover the incision during tanning.
What is the outer surface of breast implants made of?
Silicone elastomer, which is just a fancy term for rubber, or, to be more precise, siliconized rubber.
What is inside of silicone breast implants made of?
Very thick, cohesive, viscous molecules of silicone gel inside a very durable siliconized rubber “shell.”
Is breast massage necessary after breast implants?
With the exception of the shaped, tear-drop, gummy bear implant, the answer is always “yes.” Manipulating the breast with massage will maintain softness and diminish the risk of capsule formation and hardening of breast tissue around the implants.
Do breast implants harden? And why?
The implants themselves do not harden, they are inanimate. But your body makes a thin membrane to separate “the living self” from the foreign object that is the implant. The cells in your body, known as fibroblasts, weave a cocoon around the implant to isolate itself, but for some unknown reasons and unknown factors certain patients continue to develop a thicker walled cocoon, which we call a capsule in the process of capsular contracture. The reasons for this may be trauma, infection, common colds, smoking and free radical formation. This abnormal thickening eventually squeezes the implant and may lead to implant displacement, deformity and pain. Capsular contracture is classified as Baker I, II, III and IV, with Baker IV being the most severe. Capsular contracture frequently required corrective surgery (which can be partially covered by enhance warranties available for purchase directly from the breast augmentation manufacturers).
How common is capsular contracture?
The national statistics reveal that less than five percent of breast implants become hardened. The occurrence of capsular contracture is even less common with Chicago breast augmentation procedures done in our practice. This may be a result of several factors, such as our diligent attention to detail during surgery to avoid bleeding, minimal handling of the implant, or perhaps because of the Recovery Pak™ supplements of proteolytic enzymes together with Arnica Montana and postoperative high dose of anti-oxidant therapy with FBD™ we provide to our patients. The verdict is still out on the true causes and precise incidence of capsular contracture, however, in our experience early short term high dose antioxidant supplements help minimize the risk of capsular contracture.
What is the term “closed capsulotomy”?
Even though this is no longer a recommended technique, in experienced hands it may still serve a purpose. At the early phases of capsule formation around the implant a surgeon enters the area and breaks down the capsule. This maneuver is known as closed capsulotomy, and may at times be successful. When performed, it must be performed by an experienced practitioner to minimize the risk of implant rupture.
Are there any treatments other than surgery for capsular contracture?
Yes, use of anti-inflammatory medications has proven beneficial in less severe cases of capsular contracture.
What is capsulectomy surgery after breast implant hardening?
This is the surgical removal of the thick capsule, which sometimes may have to be accompanied by replacing the implants, with the hope that the same process of capsular contracture does not reoccur.
Can I have breast implants if I am still smoking?
Yes, even though we have performed breast augmentation in Chicago on thousands of patients who continue to smoke, you are placing yourself at a much higher risk of complications, such as wound infections and capsular contracture by continuing to smoke before and after your surgery. We always advise smokers to quit, however, those who are unable to do so on a permanent basis should refrain from smoking or using any nicotine products for two weeks before and two weeks after the procedure.
Why are doctors so concerned about cigarette smoking before surgery?
Smoking cigarettes before and immediately following your surgery is one of the most detrimental and even potentially dangerous things you can do. It may jeopardize your surgical result and lead to disastrous complications. Cigarettes contain both carbon monoxide and nicotine.
Carbon monoxide & nicotine: A dangerous duo
Carbon monoxide is a harmful gas that rapidly enters your bloodstream when you inhale it. Carbon monoxide decreases the amount of much needed oxygen inside your red blood cells.
Nicotine is a dangerous and highly addictive chemical. It can cause an increase in blood pressure, heart rate, and arterial vasoconstriction (narrowing of the blood vessels), further interfering with oxygen supply to the incision site.
Can I have surgery if I have a cold?
You should be completely healthy the day of your surgery. If you suspect that you may be developing a cold, you should discuss this with your surgeon.
Can I have alcohol the night before surgery?
We prefer that you abstain from all alcoholic beverages the night before breast augmentation surgery in Chicago.
What medications do I have to stop before surgery?
You should discontinue any medication that interferes with your body’s normal bleeding and clotting mechanisms. Examples of such medications are aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve), blood-thinners or anti-coagulants such as Coumadin and Plavix, herbal supplements, high doses of vitamin D, omega-3 fish oil capsules. We will provide you with a full list of medications to avoid prior to your breast augmentation surgery.
Can I smoke marijuana before breast augmentation surgery?
It will probably be okay to proceed, but we still advise our patients to abstain in the days leading up to their procedure.
If I had cocaine the night before is it ok to have breast implant surgery?
No, cocaine is a vasoconstrictor and may result in dangerous blood pressure elevation during the procedure.
Can I keep my body piercing during surgery?
If at all possible, it is best to remove all piercings, especially those in the nipples, tongue, lips, or anywhere in the general area of the operating field.
Can I have breast surgery if I have my period?
Yes, it is perfectly fine to proceed.
Do I have to stop my birth control pills before surgery?
In the past it was recommended that patients stop their birth control pills one month before surgery and resume the normal regimen afterwards. It may still be wise to do so, since birth control medications may increase your risk of blood clot formation, however, it is not a requirement.
Do I have to remove my nail polish prior to breast augmentation surgery?
Yes, it is a good idea to do so, especially if your nail polish is dark. During surgery the level of oxygenation in your blood is monitored with a device called pulse oximeter, which is placed on your fingertips. Dark nail polish may interfere with the pulse oximeter, and result in faulty readings.
Should I bring a bra with me day of surgery?
No, we will provide you with a special post-surgical bra, and put it on you upon the completion of your surgery. You should wear this bra around the clock for one to two weeks following the procedure.
Can I eat breakfast morning of my surgery?
No. You may not eat or drink anything after midnight the day before your surgery, otherwise your surgery will have to be postponed.
After surgery why do I go to recovery room?
To be monitored by the recovery room staff until you are fully awake and stable enough to be taken home. This usually takes an hour or two.
Can I pick up my baby after surgery?
Not for the first few days and not until you regain enough strength to comfortably lift your baby.
Is there a preferred sleeping position during the first week after surgery?
We prefer that you sleep on your back, with your torso slightly elevated. Many patients find it more comfortable to sleep in a reclining chair for the first few days following their breast augmentation in Chicago.
Can I sleep on my stomach after the first week?
Yes, but make sure that you are not experiencing any additional discomfort when doing so.
What can I do to my incision?
Keep your incision clean and dry, and avoid touching it for a few weeks following your surgery. This is to avoid contamination and minimize risk of infection, which in our experience is 0.1 percent, or one out of every 1000 patients.
How do I keep my body clean of bacteria?
Before surgery we will provide you with a special an anti-microbial body liquid soap called Hibiclens (chlorhexidine). It is imperative that you wash your body with Hibiclens for two days before Chicago breast augmentation surgery and for the few days following, until the whole bottle has been used.
When can I apply scar cream to my incisions?
We will provide you with a special scar gel. We advise you wait four-to-five weeks before applying it to your incisions twice a day.
After surgery my breasts were perfect but after few months one moves higher than the other, should I be concerned?
This may be temporary, but definitely it warrants getting in touch with your surgeon and coming in for an office visit and examination.
Can implants move after surgery?
Yes, this is rare, but may occur due to several reasons such as trauma, capsular contracture, or excessive chest exercise.
Do I have to change my breast implants every few years?
No, modern implants tend to last well over 10 years. Many last 20-plus years. As long as the implants are intact, nothing needs to be done.
What is breast implant rippling?
Rippling of the implant is usually caused by interaction between the surface of the implant and your own breast tissue. It is more common in lean individuals who have very little breast tissue to cover the implant. Rippling may also occur if the implant chosen is inappropriately large for the dimensions of the patient’s chest. Rippling is less common with high profile silicone gel implants.
How do I know what size is best for me?
This is a personal decision that you have to make with the input from your surgeon. Ultimately you have to be happy with the new size of your breasts, but remember to stay within the parameters set by your physician. They are based on experience and measurements of your own anatomy. It is not a good idea to listen to your friends, even ones who have breast implants, as no two individuals are alike.
If I am having breast implants should I just go as big as possible?
Unfortunately, we hear this question all too often. Bigger is not better in breast augmentation surgery. You do not want to get to a point when you sacrifice esthetic appearance for the sake of size. You will almost certainly regret it.
Will I feel my implants inside me?
No, once the Chicago breast augmentation is finished and the implants are inside you, you will have no sensation or awareness of their existence.
Do I have to tell my primary care doctor that I have breast implants?
It is always best to inform your primary care physician at the time of your next examination
Can my partner tell I have breast implants?
Your partner may or may not be able to tell that you have implants. We have had some patients tell us that during physical examination even their doctor could not tell that they had breast implants.
When can I let my partner touch my breasts?
Your partner can only gently touch your breasts after one week, as long as it is not causing you any discomfort
Can my partner squeeze my breasts?
Not before six weeks following your procedure.
Is it normal when one breast is more tender than the other?
Yes, it is quite common, and resolves within a week or two post surgery.
Do I hear my implants sloshing around?
Yes, that is normal and stops after about four to six weeks.
What is the likelihood of inadvertently putting more or less saline in one breasts?
Zero, when we place saline in your implants all personnel in the operating room keep count, so rest assured, the chance of an implant being filled incorrectly is ZERO
When do bruises go away?
It depends on your body’s ability to absorb the bruises, but usually they disappear after two to four weeks.
Is it normal for breast implants to appear high after surgery?
Yes, this is caused by the pectoralis muscle spasm and lasts about six weeks before muscles start to relax. Avoid physical activity for a few weeks after your surgery, and the high appearance will disappear within a few weeks.
My nipples are very sensitive after surgery and sometimes they hurt. Is this normal?
This is normal and is caused by the implant stretching the breast tissue. Normal sensation returns within four to six weeks.
How do you make sure my implants are placed in equal level during surgery?
It is common practice during breast augmentation surgery to elevate your torso to a semi-sitting position in order evaluate precise level of your breast implant placement and make the final finishing touch adjustments of not just the level of implants but the volume and overall symmetry of your breasts.
What do our patients have to say about their experience with breast augmentation surgery at the Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute?
“I was tired of my foney B cup paded bras, I could not find clothes that will look right on me. I was too small on top compared to my bottom half. After my free consultation at the The Liposuction and the cosmetic surgery Institute in Chicago, I knew I met the right team for me. I of doctors and staff who I could trust. They cared and I felt they understood my needs and very experienced in the breast augmentation skill. Every step was meant to make me feel relaxed and safe. They were very professional, gentle and caring from the initial visit to the day of surgery. The aftercare was fantastic. They catered after all my needs, from supportive bra to day by day instructions. I was given plenty of private time to try different types and sizes of implants and to speak to other patients and discuss my options. Leslie Forrester RN and the consultant Lilian answered all my questions. They even provided me with their personal mobile telephone numbers in case I needed to ask any questions at off hours or weekends. I am very grateful to all the staff for the care and results I received. It was a very happy journey. I have already referred two of my friends and plan to return myself for Botox treatments. Thank you very much”
