Cosmetic Surgeons Explain: What Is A Vampire Facelift?

Published by Leon Tcheupdjian

When you think of a vampire facelift, several topics might come to mind.
You might think of pale skin, blood, fangs, or the flawless appearance of vampires in pop culture movies like Twilight or True Blood.

With all of these topics in mind, the idea of a vampire facelift might sound too intimidating to go through. In reality, this nonsurgical procedure offers a more natural, less invasive way to improve the appearance and quality of the face’s skin.

Vampire Facelift

Breaking Down The Procedure

The term “Vampire Facelift” is only relevant to this procedure because it uses a small amount of a client’s own blood to improve their skin’s tone, texture appearance, as well as erase wrinkles and other age lines on their face.

Through an in-office blood draw, our staff places this sample of a client’s blood in a centrifuge to single out the body’s platelet rich plasma (PRP). This plasma contains a protein known as cytokines, which promotes growth within our cells and immune system. Separating this plasma and using it for this facelift, means the targeted cells will see increased collagen production, cell turnover and younger-looking skin.

Once the PRP is gathered from the centrifuge, it is combined with a natural hyaluronic acid filler before being inserted into targeted areas of the face. For some clients who are sensitive to injections, a numbing cream can be applied prior to treatment.

Following an injection to all targeted areas of the vampire facial, clients can see results almost instantly. This can make the vampire facelift before and after photos both surprising and satisfying for the client.

With this treatment being noninvasive, the side effects should be minimal after it is complete. Swelling, itching, minor bruising or a tingling sensation are the few side effects a client can experience while their skin recovers following a vampire facelift.

It’s vital for clients to avoid touching their face and to consult with medical professionals about any after care treatments to ease side effects.

Why It Works

Our bodies contain more than 38 different types of growth factors that make our skin appear vibrant, hydrated and smooth. As we age however, the molecules that make up these growth factors slowly start to decline in production, causing age lines and wrinkles.

One factor, hyaluronic acid, is already found in areas of the body with high concentrations of fluid. This includes our joints, eyes, and connective tissue. The face tends to be one of the first places we start to see the recession of blood flow and growth factors across the body. Ultimately, this is what causes wrinkles, fine lines and other depressions in the skin.

Because hyaluronic acid is already found within our bodies, along with the platelet rich plasma found in our red blood cells, this is what makes the vampire facelift procedure both natural and noninvasive.

Where Can A Vampire Facelift Be Applied?

Some of the areas targeted for a vampire facelift include the cheeks, chin, and smile lines. In addition to addressing age lines, the vampire facelift can also be injected into scars caused by acne or other trauma to the skin.

Outside of the face, this special PRP treatment can be used to enhance the appearance of other areas of the body through the following procedures: breast augmentations, breast lifts, urinary incontinence treatment, and treatment around the genitals to enhance sexual confidence, response or performance.

If the vampire facelift is applied to these other areas of the body, hyaluronic acid might not be included.

How Long Will Results Last?

Results from this facelift can be seen almost immediately. Otherwise if results are not immediately visible, they will continuously develop over the course of two to three weeks. Following these weeks, clients will notice a glow or evenness occurring around the areas addressed during the vampire facial.

It’s also important to note that the results of the vampire facelift are not permanent. Most results will last around a year. Some clients have even seen results last as long as 18 months or more.

Regardless of the amount of time the results remain, you will likely need to follow up with another vampire facelift in the future if you wish to see the same results.
