It’s been amazing to me how much my profession has changed in the last decade. Things that could only be done through surgery are now happening in an hour, with little or no anesthesia. Liposuction in one of our Chicago procedure suites was once our only choice when it came to fat removal, but today we can remove fat cells permanently with Cool Sculpting.
This cryolipolysis fat removal treatment takes about one hour while the patients pass the time on their iPads. When they are done, they stand up, leave and return to their everyday lives (back to the office, working out, being a mother, whatever it may be)… absolutely no downtime.

An exciting new, FDA approved treatment to eliminate the double chin
Now that it has been recently approved by the FDA for treatment of excess fat under the chin, expect Kybella to become a household brand in the field of cosmetic medicine. For now, you’re probably wondering exactly what the Kybella treatment is. Here’s the deal: we apply a small sticker to the area beneath your chin or jawline where excess fat has bulged and created sagging skin. The sticker acts as a template we use to guide us in the proper injection technique. But what do we inject and how does it work? We inject deoxycholic acid (branded as Kybella), which naturally seeks out and eliminates fat, similar to your body’s own natural fat dissolving process.
After two clinical trials involving thousands of patients that lasted years, the FDA has acknowledged that Kybella actively reduces submental fat in the area beneath the chin. The treatment takes about fifteen minutes. For optimal results, patients should know that several treatments spaced about a month apart may be necessary.

Yes, we still do magnificent surgical procedures, but now we can treat many more people with many more comfortable procedures. Who knows what the coming years will bring to our cosmetic medicine industry? If the past few were any indication, the future really is looking beautiful.
