COVID-19 has undoubtedly taken a toll on all of us in one way or another. For many, the idea of skipping regular Botox and filler appointments is frustrating, as this is a way for both men and women to look and feel younger, ultimately improving their confidence levels. While you won’t suddenly wake up one day and notice that your Botox is gone, it’s still ideal to learn some tips and tricks on how to extend the effectiveness of your Botox and other injectables in the case that you can’t make it to our office for an appointment.
If your personal circumstances have prevented you from coming into our Chicago cosmetic surgery office for regular appointments, keep these tips in mind.
Shade is Your Friend
With the sun coming down hotter than ever, it’s tempting to bask all day under the sun. However, overexposure to the sun is one of the most common forms of wrinkles, and the exposure to the sun breaks down collagen. Collagen is a protein found naturally in your body that helps strengthen the skin, so the faster this breaks down, the less time your injectables will last. You should be applying sunscreen of at least 30 SPF on a daily basis, even if it’s cloudy outside. Your skin is delicate, make sure to take care of it!
Manage Your Stress
Frowning repeatedly in addition to squinting will often activate the muscles that Botox injections aim to relax. Today’s climate makes it easy to feel overly stressed out, but keeping stress at bay can help your treatments last longer.
Maintain Your Skincare Routine
In addition to wearing sunscreen on a daily basis, it’s important that you treat your skin well by using quality products and ingredients. Keep in mind that your routine doesn’t need to be complicated in order to be effective! Invest in high-quality products that have hyaluronic acid to keep your skin looking hydrated and dewy. Products that have retinol in them are also beneficial to the skin. If you have questions about specific products or ingredients to use or avoid, don’t hesitate to let us know!
Eat the Right Foods
Fueling your body with the right foods can help improve your skin as well. Fresh fruits and vegetables in addition to lean protein and whole grains can keep your skin looking fresh. You should also aim to drink at least 8 cups of water every day.
