PRP HAIR RESTORATION
PRP is a safe and in-office procedure that reverses hair loss and hair thinning by extracting long lasting natural elements from your blood and its active growth factors to instigate substantial hair regrowth.
PRP Hair Restoration In Chicago
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is blood plasma with extremely concentrated blood cells known as platelets. Growth factors in PRP have been studied to facilitate wound healing. Recently, studies have suggested that aside from hair transplantation surgery, PRP may also serve as a safe and effective non-surgical treatment option for male and female pattern hair loss.We can use this PRP, which naturally exists in your blood, to treat thinning hair. The result is added diameter of your existing hairs, an increase in the amount of hair in each follicle and prevention of further hair loss. The process, on the surface, is simple. We take your own blood, spin it in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP, then reintroduce the PRP back into the area where the hair is thinning. That’s it, no outside medications or other substances.
The PRP process achieves five to nine times times the number of platelets found in normal circulating blood. Following the activation process, the PRP secretes 10 different platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF), epidermal growth factors, connective tissue growth factors, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor (TGF), keratinocyte growth factors and fibroblast growth factors most notably. These growth factors allow the bioactive proteins to open up and regulate cellular and follicular healing. Not only does reverse hair miniaturization result but quality hair rejuvenation is also possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
HOW IS PRP HAIR RESTORATION DONE?
- A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient in our office
- The extracted blood is placed in a specialized centrifuge, twice separating specific cells in the blood called platelets
- These platelets suspended in your plasma are very highly concentrated (specifically with specialized growth factors)
- The highly concentrated platelets are now activated and injected in the patient’s scalp with a tiny needle
WHAT CAN PRP TREAT WHEN IT COMES TO THINNING HAIR?
- Male and female pattern hair loss.
- Alopecia Areata
- Female hair thinning and miniaturization as a result of hormonal decline
- Hair thinning as a result of aging
- Post-pregnancy Hair loss or thinning
- Hair thinning as a result of medication
- Reverse miniaturization seen in androgenetic alopecia (common baldness).
WHAT DOES PRP HAIR RESTORATION COST?
Expect each session to start around $950 per session. Topical application of hair products and laser treatments for hair growth are additional.
WHAT IS IT IN OUR BLOOD THAT MAKES PRP?
Our blood contains three types of cells, red blood cells (RBC), white blood cells of many types (WBC) and small cells known as platelets, which contain all the healing and regenerating tissue growth factors. It is the platelets that we selectively extract and concentrate then activate prior to injecting in your scalp for hair regrowth. We find TruPRP very useful as both an adjuvant in hair transplantation surgery and for the non surgical treatment of male and female hair loss.
ARE ALL PRP SYSTEMS IS THE SAME?
No, we use only TruPRP ™, an advanced double centrifugation technology that is cable of achieving the highest concentration of platelets and “biologic active growth factors” possible from your blood. There are many other inexpensive PRP systems that are not nearly as advanced asTruPRP ™ , many of which will not activate nearly enough PRP to be effective.
HOW IS THE PRP INTRODUCED INTO THE TREATMENT AREA?
Your PRP and its biologically active growth factors are injected with very tiny needle into your scalp.
WHAT DOES THE FINAL INJECTION SOLUTION CONTAIN?
The plasma we’ll use for the final treatment injection is rich in platelets, tiny blood-clotting cells that secrete healing growth factors and may even recruit stem cells that regenerate healing substances.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM PRP FOR HAIR?
Since we use only TRU-PRP, we have achieved impressive results even though the process is slow and a few sessions are necessary to achieve the full impact of reversing hair thinning and hair loss.
HOW LONG WILL EACH PRP HAIR RESTORATION PROCEDURE TAKE?
PRP hair treatment sessions usually last between 45 and 60 minutes each.
HOW SOON CAN RESULTS BE NOTICED?
Our patients have noticed a fuzz appearance after a single session. The treatment not only stimulates hair growth but also strengthens existing hair shaft and follicles. Full results should be seen after three sessions.
HOW MANY SESSIONS OF PRP HAIR RESTORATION ARE NEEDED?
There is no specific number of sessions required, but it at our Institute we recommend three sessions, spaced four to eight weeks apart.
WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME ASSOCIATED WITH PRP HAIR RESTORATION?
None, since the procedure is non-surgical.
WHAT ARE THE KEY BENEFITS OF PRP HAIR RESTORATION?
PRP is a safe and in-office procedure that reverses hair loss and hair thinning by extracting long lasting natural elements from your blood and its active growth factors to instigate substantial hair regrowth. Thus, the patient receives a treatment for hair loss that uses only naturally occurring substances found within the patient’s body, with no downtime, no surgery and no extended discomfort.
WHAT IS THE GOAL OF PRP HAIR RESTORATION?
The ultimate goal is to reverse hair loss and hair thinning in various hair loss conditions, such as male and female pattern hair loss, following hormonal decline, post-pregnancy hair loss and/or adverse response to medications.
IS PRP HAIR RESTORATION PAINFUL?
Most patients tolerate the procedure without any anesthesia but we recommend topical numbing cream, plus a few oral tablets of either Aleve or ibuprofen.
HOW LONG CAN THE RESULTS LAST?
Since this is a procedure in its infancy, long-term results are largely unknown. We consider this to be a treatment that lasts after the three initially prescribed treatments. Some patients have found that annual maintenance may be necessary to sustain permanent results.
WHAT OTHER PROCEDURES CAN BE AT THE SAME TIME TO FIGHT HAIR LOSS?
We usually recommend Revage ™, which is a hair laser treatment after the PRP injection.
WHAT IS ALOPECIA AREATA? AND DOES PRP HELP RESTORING NEW HAIR IN THE BALD SPOTS OF ALOPECIA AREATA?
Alopecia areata is an genetic and a non-contagious autoimmune disease, in which our immune system mistakenly attacks the hair follicles (the deep apparatuses that make hair). This condition causes sudden appearance of bald spots in the scalp. PRP can help stimulate hair growth, even though it may not actually cure the underlying autoimmune disorder.
WHAT CARE DO I NEED AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
None, just relax and avoid touching your injection sites with your fingers.
HOW SOON CAN I START THE TREATMENT?
After initial consultation, our patients start the first session immediately.
WHAT PRODUCTS I SHOULD USE TO OPTIMIZE MY RESULTS?
We recommend a special shampoo and conditioner, plus daily a daily collagen induction therapy (CIT) device for scalp needling, followed by application of high concentration of minoxidil solution to the scalp.
