Buttock Contouring Procedures in Chicago

Also commonly referred to as “Buttock Lift”, Buttock enlargement, or fat transfer to the butt, AKA Brazilian Buttock Lift. In medical terminology it is known as Gluteal Autologous Fat Grafting or Augmentation.

What exactly gets done during the procedure?

In the first phase the patient undergoes thorough liposuction of the areas where unwanted fat resides. This may be unwanted fat around the abdomen, waist, hips, inner thighs, inner knees, and arms. The selection of the areas to be liposuctioned is made by the patient. This phase is very important because the surgeon’s liposuction skills are crucial. Here at the Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute Dr Tcheupdjian and other members of the medical staff have performed thousands of liposuction procedures. They are able to meticulously extract the fat to be used for transfer, leaving behind a new, improved body contour. To ensure the viability of the fat cells, the fat extraction by liposuction is performed using liposuction instruments that are capable of extracting the fat under low-pressure. The fat is captured in a specialized sterile and disposable containers. The entire procedure is done using a closed sterile system to ensure that the extracted fat remains sterile throughout the entire procedure.

The second phase is equally crucial because during this part of the procedure the actual enhancement of the buttocks occurs. The liposuctioned fat is symmetrically and precisely injected into the buttocks to increase the size and improve the shape, accentuating the curves and contours of the buttocks even more. The combination of the two leads to fullness and beautification of the buttock form, along with improvement in overall body image.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?

At our Chicago location, the typical patient undergoing Brazilian Butt Lift is a female in her early 20s to mid 30s. Men occasionally request this procedure as well. The patient usually states that their buttocks don’t match the rest of their body – they are too small or not shapely or curvy enough. A mandatory requirement of this procedure is the presence of unwanted fat and most patients usually have enough in various parts of their body to be obtained for transfer. If the patient is too thin and the desired amount of fat cannot be harvested, the only remaining option in a silicone formed buttock implant.

The skin must be fairly elastic and not too saggy, even though mild skin sagging may benefit from the fat transfer. If the skin of your buttocks is extremely loose, you may need a separate surgical procedure called a buttock lift, that removes excess skin leading thus lifting the buttocks upwards. It may be combined with the Brazilian Buttock Lift if restoration of buttock volume is desired.

The recovery is quick. The liposuctioned body parts and the buttocks may be tender for few days. Pain medications is prescribed in order to ease the discomfort. You cannot sit on your buttocks for 10 days to two weeks following the procedure. This time is needed in order for the transferred fat to obtain a blood supply and become viable in its new environment. Sitting on your buttocks will keep the blood supply from reaching the newly acquired fat cells. As a result, they will not survive and you may lose your correction. A low-pressure compression garment must still be worn for a period of two weeks, just like after traditional liposuction procedure.

The results of the Brazilian butt lift vary slightly from one patient to another . Like with all other fat transfer procedures, the final outcome and results depend on the local blood supply of the buttocks, since the number of fat cells that survive depends on nourishment and oxygenation which is supplied by the tiny deep capillaries of the buttocks. Our experience has been that about 50 to 75% of the fat cells will eventually survive

Immediately after surgery, you will notice that your buttocks are larger. This enlargement is the result of two components: the fatty component that will live in its new environment and post operative swelling that occurs in the area as a result of surgery. The edema will resolve over three to six weeks, leaving you with the final result.

It depends on the final size of the buttocks that will make you happy. Occasionally a patient will need more than one fat transfer session in order to obtain the optimum fullness they desire.

Initial discomfort lasts a few short days. Pain control medications are prescribed for you to take them at your discretion.

It is imperative that all post operative instructions and follow-up visits followed carefully to minimize all risks. Please read for the instructions given to you and follow them. The usual risks of all cosmetic surgeries are infection, bleeding, scarring and temporary loss of sensation.
