How Great Is The PRP Hair Treatment Success Rate

Published by Leon Tcheupdjian

Losing your hair can feel isolating, but rest assured you’re not alone. In fact, humans lose an average of 50 to 100 hairs off their head each day.

For those that face hair loss beyond what is considered to be average and now face bald spots, there is a state-of-the-art solution to help you regrow your hair. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) hair treatment utilizes concentrations of your own blood to stimulate hair growth on a targeted area of the scalp.

According to a 2017 study from Italy on hair loss, both men and women saw at least 30 to 40 percent of regrowth after three sessions of treatment.

What Causes Hair Loss?

Because hair loss is incredibly common, there are several reasons why you could be balding, thinning, or just losing too much hair. Just some of the many reasons for hair loss include aging, genetics, alopecia areata, cancer treatments, illnesses, periods of intense or prolonged stress, childbirth, traction alopecia, hormones, thyroid disease, and more.

No one’s hair loss looks the exact same but similarities in symptoms can occur. From hair gradually thinning or falling out, to a lack of regrowth, different types of hair loss can appear abruptly or slowly emerge over time.

There are many solutions for hair loss today, including hair transplants, extractions, lasers that promote growth, over-the-counter medications, and topicals that can be applied to troublesome areas. While some of these solutions offer results quickly, this could also mean that these results are short term.

If you’re seeking longer term solutions to hair loss, then considering a PRP hair treatment might be one of your best options.

How Does It Work?

PRP Hair Treatment is conducted in three sessions or more depending on the scale of hair restoration needed. Each session can last between 45 to 60 minutes at a time, and requires no downtime at all.

One of our doctors will draw a small amount of your blood and then place it within a centrifuge. This device will separate the platelets and plasma from the rest of your blood cells. Once this is complete, your plasma will be placed into a syringe, and injected into the scalp near the area of hair loss.

The reason this separation is done and followed by this injection of your own blood, is because platelets contain a high concentration of regrowth and healing factors that help our bodies create new tissue. Prior to being used as a treatment for hair regeneration, PRP injections were used to help speed up the healing process for tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. Not only will this treatment stimulate hair regrowth, but it will also cause targeted hair follicles to be strengthened.

When Will You See Results From PRP?

Because hair growth is different for every individual, patience is a big key in waiting and seeing the long-term benefits of PRP. Results have been reported as a fuzzy appearance after just one session, but after three sessions is when hair growth can be seen or felt.

These sessions take place every 4 to 8 weeks, which means clients can see the progression of their new hair growth happening over the course of 12 to 24 weeks. As far as how long the results actually last, this depends entirely on the client. Some clients report having to conduct annual maintenance with PRP treatment to maintain permanent results. Others do not have to return quite as often for another session.

The size of the hair loss area also determines how often a person needs to return for PRP. The larger the area of treatment, the more often the client will need to come in for another session to promote growth.

Following your third session, it is important to take care of your new hair by using a special shampoo and conditioner. Other products that will help stimulate and maintain hair growth include a daily collagen induction therapy device used for scalp needling and a minoxidil topical solution.
