Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which natural perspiration, the body’s cooling system, is considered excessive. The hands and armpits and feet are particularly affected in those with hyperhidrosis.
Botox® has been used successful at treating hyperhidrosis. Severe underarm perspiration can be controlled by using Botox® to temporarily block the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.
Botox® solution is injected into the affected underarm area. Your consultation with our staff will determine how many injections are necessary based on an assessment of the area that needs to be treated. Once you’ve begun treatment, you should notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating within 4 weeks of your first treatment. There is no cure for hyperhidrosis, but in a recent clinical study, the average duration of effective response from Botox® was 6 months to 1 year. Symptoms return gradually, so it is easy to know when the time is right for additional Botox® treatment.
