Many women wish they could change the appearance of their body to better reflect their beauty goals. With breast implants in Naperville, IL from the Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute, clients who wish to have larger, more symmetrical and lifted breasts can achieve their desired cosmetic results.
Breast augmentation, or Augmentation Mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure that enhances, lifts, and enlarges the breasts. It can be used to increase the size of small or underdeveloped breasts. It can also be used to lift and enhance breasts that have changed due to pregnancy or medical conditions.
For individuals who have had a mastectomy procedure, which is often performed on breast cancer patients, breast augmentation can restore their natural breast size and shape.
Cosmetic Enhancement
Breast augmentation is for anyone who is unhappy with the size, shape, and/or symmetry of their breasts. For many people, breast augmentation isn’t just about increasing size, it’s about loving the way they look and feel in their own bodies.
Often, patients who opt for breast augmentation are women who have struggled with health issues that affected their natural breast tissue. Other people have visibly asymmetrical breasts, deformities, or sagging, deflated breasts as a result of pregnancy or hormonal changes.
Breast augmentation can address the following physical concerns:
- Small breasts
- Underdevelopment
- Breast deformity
- Asymmetry
- Lost volume
- Sagging breasts
- Damage to breast tissue after injury
- Minimal or no breast tissue after a mastectomy or double mastectomy
Regardless of why someone chooses to undergo this procedure, our board certified plastic surgeons are here to help each client achieve their desired results and feel more confident in their appearance.
The Procedure
Breast augmentation procedures can be performed in a few different ways. Things that vary from patient to patient include incision technique, the types of breast implants used, breast implant size, and placement of the implants.
There are three options for incision, including at the lower crease of the breasts, the armpit, or where the areola meets skin. When selecting a method, your surgeon will make a recommendation based on their experience, your body type, preferences, and desired results. They will also explain the various advantages and disadvantages of each technique.
Additionally, when it comes to choosing an implant material, shape, and size, your surgeon will explain what your options are and make an educated recommendation. Breast implants can differ in a number of ways, including contents, such as saline VS silicone, shape, size, texture, and profile (the outward and anterior appearance of an implant).

Recovery
Most breast augmentation patients recover from surgery after 4-6 weeks.
If you undergo breast augmentation, you will likely be able to return to work within 1-2 weeks. It’s important not to lift anything heavy, take part in strenuous activity, or overexert yourself until you’re fully recovered.
Immediately after surgery, small drainage tubes may need to be placed to help your body eliminate excess fluid over the next few days.
As you are healing, you will be required to wear a surgical bra for a specified duration to help support your breasts while they heal. Bruising, swelling, and tenderness is normal and may last for up to 5 weeks.
Who is an Ideal Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
Good candidates for breast augmentation are generally healthy, don’t smoke, and want to enlarge, lift, or otherwise enhance one or both breasts. Clients interested in breast augmentation should also be fully aware of the risks associated with this procedure and over the age of 18.
Individuals who are planning on losing weight, getting pregnant, or breastfeeding are not ideal candidates for breast augmentation. This is because such changes can affect the breast tissue and final results of the surgery.
How Long Do Implants Last?
Breast implants are designed to last for 10-20 years. However, every patient is different and these time estimates are not hard rules. Many patients’ implants last much longer than 20 years. Other clients will require implant replacement or revision surgery before the 10 year mark.
If you currently have breast implants and are concerned it’s time for a revision surgery, contact us at the Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute for breast implant removal in Chicago.
Breast Augmentation by Fat Injection
At the Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute, we also offer fat transfer breast augmentation in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. This involves removing excess, unwanted fat from one area of the body and injecting it into the breast tissue. This enlarges the breasts without the need for implants.
