Benefits of Liposuction
Liposuction is one of the most effective solutions available for getting rid of unwanted fat. While liposuction is not a substitute for traditional weight loss methods, it can eliminate excess fat in select areas of the body that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise.
Despite the common term “burning fat” which is used to refer to weight loss, fat cells are not actually eliminated from the body. When we “lose” weight, fat cells merely shrink, and to get rid of them permanently they must be surgically removed.
Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is a surgical procedure that uses suction to permanently remove unwanted fat. Various liposuction techniques have been developed over the years to cultivate highly precise results and faster recovery times.

What Does Liposuction Treat?
Liposuction, lipo-sculpture, and body contouring procedures target fat in specific areas of the body. This means clients benefit from highly personalized procedures. Liposuction can be performed on multiple body areas, including the hips, thighs, ankles, buttocks, back, arms, abdomen, and even the neck and face.
Liposuction can improve the overall appearance of your figure, eliminate stubborn, excess fat, and smooth various regions of the body. Liposuction is often used in accompaniment with other contouring procedures, such as tummy tucks, breast reduction surgery, and as a focal point in mommy makeovers.
The Procedure
Liposuction surgeries vary in technique, but the process always involves removing fat through suction. Patients receive general anesthesia before the procedure begins. The surgeon then makes small incisions where they will insert what is called a cannula. Local anesthesia is diluted and injected, as well, to reduce bleeding and trauma in the area.
The cannula is used to loosen fat from the surrounding tissues. The fat cells are then removed using a surgical suctioning device or syringe.
Recovery
Recovery after liposuction varies from person to person. The size of the treatment area, the surgical technique that was used, and the amount of fat that was removed can all impact anticipated recovery times.
Patients have to wear compression bandages for anywhere from 2-6 weeks after surgery. Some patients also have drainage tubes placed to help with the healing process. Drainage tubes are removed within 7-10 days after the procedure.
Most patients who undergo liposuction make a full recovery within 3-6 months. Bruising, swelling, numbness, pain, and bleeding are normal immediately after surgery. Swelling may last up to 6 weeks, while bruising usually subsides within 4-5 weeks.
Strenuous and even light activity will have to be avoided for anywhere from 1-3 weeks. Patients should not exercise or lift anything heavy during this period. Most patients can return to work within a few days, or up to 3 weeks after surgery.
How Long Do Results Last?
Liposuction results, ideally, should last for the rest of a patient’s life. However, bodily changes that occur due to weight fluctuations, pregnancy, nursing, injuries, hormonal changes, etc. can reverse the results.
When Will You See Results?
You will start to see the results of liposuction surgery almost immediately once the swelling goes down, usually within 4-6 weeks. You can typically see the final results after 3 months.
