Breast Liposuction

Both women and men with large breasts who want to reduce the size of their breasts are good candidates for this procedure.

The process is simple. The patient and the surgeon jointly decide which area of excess breast tissue to attack, and the surgeon will target these areas and permanently remove the excess fatty tissue via traditional liposuction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is breast liposuction considered a surgery?

Yes, this is surgical removal of excess fat in female or male breasts via liposuction. However, this accomplishes breast reduction without any long, unsightly scars.

Who is an ideal candidate for breast liposuction?

Both women and men with large breasts who want to reduce the size of their breasts are good candidates for breast liposuction

How is breast liposuction completed?

Breast liposuction is completed the same way any other liposuction procedure is done, with specially engineered cannulas that promote safe and effective fat cell removal.

How long does the breast liposuction procedure take?

Typically, a breast liposuction procedure in our Chicago and suburb offices will take about one hour.

What type of anesthesia is used?

Typically, just local lidocaine anesthesia is used, which promotes a quicker recovery. However, other forms of anesthesia as IV sedation with local lidocaine anesthesia or general anesthesia can also be used, depending on the case and the patient.

Will there be incisions and scars?

Will there be incisions and scars?

What type of liposuction is used on the breast?

We can use any combination of traditional tumescent liposuction and/or VASER liposuction, depending on the individual case presented to the surgeon.

Where are the incisions placed?

Typically, breast liposuction incisions are placed in the armpits or breast crease and are used to introduce the thin liposuction cannula that will do all the work. The incisions are discreet enough, much to the satisfaction of our patients.

What other procedures can be done simultaneously?

Sometimes liposuction of other body parts are done at the same session, such as liposuction of the abdomen, legs or arms, depending on the patient’s goals.

How long will the breast liposuction results last?

Results are long lasting, usually more than 10 years, as long as topical home treatments are diligently followed as prescribed and periodic maintenance of non surgical treatments are followed as directed.

Will liposuction of the breasts lift sagging breasts?

Theoretically, no, there will not be any lifting. However, many of our patients report that liposuction of the breasts not only removes the fat in the large breasts but is causes the breast to shrink and the hanging low nipple seems to be lifted as a result of breast tissues contracting afterwards. This is a common observation made by our patients, but there are no guarantees when it comes to lifting. Technically, the procedure itself does not promote dramatic lifting.

Can liposuction help gynecomastia and large breasts?

Yes, definitely. For more information on breast reduction in males please, click here.

Are there non-surgical methods to reduce large breasts?

Yes, Mesotherapy (also known as lipodissolve) injections have been used but a series of treatments are needed, the results are slow to manifest themselves, and the procedure itself can be uncomfortable.

Will the fat come back once it is removed?

No, the fat cells we remove will be permanently removed from the body. Fat may migrate from other areas of the body to the breasts, but mass migration is rare.

What is the downtime associated with breast liposuction?

Typically between one and three days.

What is the goal of breast liposuction?

The goal of breast liposuction is to reduce the size of breasts with a slight but definite elevation of the breast.

Can the patient breastfeed after surgery?

Yes, since the lactating glands are not removed by liposuction, breast feeding is not affected. However, breast feeding should be avoided for about a week after surgery to allow the anesthetic drugs to completely exit the body.

Who does NOT qualify for breast liposuction?

Any patient who is pregnant or actively breastfeeding should not have surgery. All patients must be healthy and avoid aspirin and all blood thinners for about two weeks prior to surgery.

Are there any postsurgical special bandages required?

Usually a surgical support bra for the first couple weeks will suffice but wearing a support bra of your choice is mandatory when you are upright and moving around.

When can the patient resume normal activities?

Typically after only a day or two can the patient return to everyday, normal activity. However, a strong support bra should be worn for any kind of physical activity in the weeks following surgery.

Does the patient need to wear a bra at all times following surgery?

The patient should wear a bra at all times, except in bed when sleeping. A supportive bra or underwire bra will prevent your breasts from further sagging when you are upright.

What are some of the risks associated with breast liposuction?

Temporary bruising, swelling and mild discomfort are most common.

How much does breast liposuction cost?

The fee for breast liposuction is usually between $2500 and $5000. We have a number of financing options available.
