Juvederm first hit the Chicago cosmetic surgery market years ago as a Hyaluronic acid dermal filler designed to temporarily improve the appearance of facial wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body, which promotes collagen synthesis and normal skin function. Now, Juvederm XC takes the treatment of facial wrinkles to a new level by introducing Lidocaine directly into the treatment syringe, which reduces discomfort during and after treatment.
What makes Juvederm XC different than other Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers?
Allergan, Juvederm XC’s manufacturer, has developed what they call “Hylacross Technology”: the cross-linking of the Hyaluronic acid particles to create a more cohesive, smoother substance. Hyaluronic acid injections of the past had been ridden with lumpy, rougher injection areas. A smoother product means smoother injection areas, free of any unwanted lumps or “rough spots.”
How long does Juvederm XC last?
Juvederm XC, which was approved by the FDA for “the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds,” also received approval for results lasting up to one year. Expect your results to last anywhere from six months to one year. Repeated facial movements and grimaces are factors when determining lasting results. In short, the more you move your facial muscles, the shorter the effects of Juvederm XC will be visible.
Will I feel any discomfort? What is the down time?
The advent of Juvederm XC has taken any real discomfort associate with dermal injections and made it disappear. The implementation of the anesthetic Lidocaine directly into the injection syringe has virtually eliminated any discomfort during and after injection. Patients rarely may still have minor bruising, swelling or discoloration post-injection, but expect these side effects to last no more than 24 hours.
