Liposculpture of the Face & Fat Transfer Surgery

In today’s world, looking and feeling good means having a fit, well-proportioned body. For many people, though, this may seem like an unreachable goal.

Sometimes even a strict diet or a disciplined exercise program can’t conquer stubborn areas of excess fat. For those who seek a smoother or better-proportioned facial contour, liposculpture may be the answer.

What is Liposculpture of the Face?

Liposculpture is a surgical procedure performed in our Chicago Institute that removes deposits of excess fat from specific areas of the face or neck. Liposculpture can be used to slim the cheeks, eliminate a double chin and shape the neck. This procedure can produce excellent results for people who have deposits of excess fat that make certain facial areas appear disproportionately large.

People of almost any age may undergo liposculpture; however, patients with good skin elasticity will achieve the smoothest contour after fat is removed.

At the Cosmetic Surgery Institute Chicago, liposculpture surgery is followed by Dr. Tcheupdjian’s Body-Ceuticals™ treatments: topical creams and supplements to minimize the effects of cellulite. The active ingredients in our multi-product line of Body-Ceuticals™ will rapidly eliminate swelling, edema and bruising, help the patient recover quickly and smooth the contours of the body.

How is liposculpture performed?

To perform liposculpture, one or more small incisions are made near the area to be suctioned. Whenever possible, incisions are placed within the natural folds or contour lines of the skin so that they are inconspicuous. The surgeon then places a slim, hollow tube called a cannula through the incision so that its tip penetrates the underlying fat. After the cannula is connected by flexible tubing to a suction pump, the surgeon moves the cannula back and forth through the fat, which is vacuumed into the tube.

How is fat transfer performed?

Once the harvesting site is determined (abdomen, hips, thighs), the area is anesthetized. Next, the fat is removed from the area with a tiny cannula, roughly 1-2 millimeters wide. Quite simply, the tissue is immediately injected into the area that needs the improvement. Autologous Fat Transfer is done with local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. No sutures are needed.
