Reshape & Firm with A Thread Butt Lift Procedure

Many people struggle to achieve a firm, lifted buttocks. Toning and shaping your butt with exercise and proper nutrition are common ways to achieve a curvy figure. However, genetics, age, and many other factors can make it difficult to get the look you want with these methods alone.

Fortunately, there is a way to firm and lift your butt without surgery. The butt thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure that enhances the visual appearance of the buttocks after just one treatment, with results that last up to a year. It is sometimes referred to as a Brazilian butt thread lift.

How Does A Butt Thread Lift Work?

A butt thread lift, or PDO thread butt lift, helps you achieve a more lifted, firmer buttocks without exercise or surgery. This procedure involves physical manipulation of skin and underlying tissues to subtly increase size and shape.

Thin, dissolvable threads are inserted beneath the skin. These threads gently hook into soft tissues and lift them, tightening the skin and raising the buttocks to a higher position. The threads themselves fully dissolve in about 4-6 months.

PDO thread lifting procedures also encourage your body to produce new collagen and elastin. This enhances the appearance of the skin and maintains lift long after the threads are gone.

At Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute, we often combine PDO threading with Sculptra Aesthetic (PLLA or poly-L-Lactic acid) injections. This combination provides even more contoured, enhanced results. Using dermal fillers such as Sculptra to create subtle augmentation of the buttocks is also referred to as a non-surgical BBL.

Side Effects & Downtime

The thread lift for the buttocks affects each patient differently. In general, there is no downtime after the procedure. You may experience mild bruising, swelling, and tenderness that should fade within 1-2 weeks. We recommend avoiding strenuous physical activity for 1-3 weeks to ensure optimal results and avoid injury or irritation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the threads made of?

PDO threads are polydioxanone surgical sutures cleared by the FDA for use in skin tightening and lifting procedures. They’re commonly used to redefine body contours and stimulate natural collagen and elastin production.

PLLA, poly-L-lactic acid, is a synthetic, biocompatible and biodegradable material used in soft-tissue augmentation. PLLA threads are sometimes used in thread lifts for the butt and other areas.

Sculptra Aesthetic is a dermal filler injectable made out of poly-L-lactic acid. Injections fill shallow and sagging areas while also activating your body’s natural ability to regenerate collagen. This process firms the skin and underlying tissues, similarly to PDO threads.

After a thread lift, PDO threads actively lift the buttocks while Sculptra injections provide rounded volume.

The first step in a butt thread lift procedure involves applying a topical anesthetic. This keeps the treatment area numb for about 1-2 hours. Then, the area is disinfected and threads are strategically inserted by one of our cosmetic professionals.

“The target is to achieve a posterior projection and lift,” Leslie Forrester, APRN, our medical spa director and thread specialist says. During treatment, the dissolvable threads are pulled tight in order to lift skin and underlying tissues.

There are two types of threads used in butt thread lifts, including large “lifting” threads that are anchored under the skin to reposition soft tissues. They are coupled with smaller threads that stimulate collagen production, resulting in a smoother complexion and improved elasticity.

The larger threads are typically inserted at vertical angles, starting from the top of the butt. The latter are cross-woven into a mesh pattern. Broadly speaking, with proper technique, a thread lift can lift the buttocks, improve contour, and to a certain extent even diminish the look of cellulite.

Typically, a butt thread lift takes about 1 hour to complete, including the time it takes to numb the treatment area.

You should rest for about 24 hours after the procedure. This means you can return to work and normal everyday activities almost immediately. Strenuous physical activity should be avoided for about 1-3 weeks.

Good candidates for butt thread lifts are in good physical shape, near their ideal weight, and have acceptable muscle tone in the treatment area.

The lifting effects of the procedure can be seen almost immediately and last anywhere from 6-12 months. The collagen and elastin stimulating effects take about a month to kick in but can last a year or longer.

PDO thread lifts for butt enhancement help improve the perkiness and overall shape of the buttocks and skin quality. As the threads dissolve, they induce a potent blood vessel dilator called nitric oxide. This enhanced blood circulation enriches the skin with new collagen and elastin deposition, resulting in healthier, younger looking skin.

Loose, sagging skin will become more taut. Skin will also generally appear plumper and firmer. Clients may also see improvement in the appearance of cellulite and even stretch marks.

When Sculptra is used in addition to a thread lift, clients can expect to see a fuller, more rounded shape and less dimpling.
