Liposuction, many different techniques, same outlook: the starting line toward a healthy diet and exercise
I’ve been seeing patients for free liposuction consultations for parts of five decades now, and without fail patients always ask, “Will the fat come back?” The answer is simple: When I remove fat cells, whether by traditional liposuction, laser liposuction (smart lipo), high definition liposuction (VASER liposuction), thermal liposuction (Thermi RF) or cryolipolysis (Cool Sculpting), those fat cells are forever gone from your body. And your body has a finite number of fat cells that will never reproduce. So, to put it simply, fat removed via liposuction will never “come back.”
The difficult part for patients to understand, however, is liposuction isn’t so much the finish line as it is the starting line. When the fat leaves the body via liposuction, it doesn’t magically fix patients’ exercise and diet habits. I can’t force my patients to go easy on foods high in unhealthy fats, sugars and carbs. I can’t force my patients to establish a cardiovascular exercise program. But if my patients fall back into these unhealthy living habits, the remaining fat cells will ultimately begin to bulge and create stingy fat pockets once again.
Maintaining diet and exercise after liposuction
That’s why at the Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute we see liposuction as the acceptance of the fact that your weight makes you unhappy, which in turn helps you reach the point where you want to do something about it. Liposuction, with all the revolutionary techniques we have today, can be tailored to your individual situation. And the results are better than ever because of the new techniques.
Today’s liposuction techniques will also provide you with the ultimate, immeasurable motivational tool, which should be used to move toward a healthier lifestyle. After liposuction, you should never again have to look in the mirror and frown. To come into our office, go through with liposuction, then leave and think you’re magically cured is doing yourself a disservice. It is for this reason that the Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute, with locations in Chicago, Oak Brook, Arlington Heights and Naperville, offers continuous weight loss programs and nutritional natural supplements to help keep you on a healthy track well after your liposuction procedure. We see it as a disservice to our patients to send patients on their way after liposuction without guidance on healthy eating and exercise. And I think that’s a big part of what makes the Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery stand out. We care about you before, during and after your procedure. And we believe the after is just as important as the actual procedure.
