GENIUS by Lutronic: Radio Frequency and Microneedling combine to provide a breakthrough skin rejuvenation treatment.

The Genius is a next-generation combination treatment that combines the regenerative properties of two popular cosmetic modalities: microneedling and radio frequency. When combined, these two technologies promote precise coagulation of skin tissue, which in turn promotes visible improvement of scars, acne scars, skin texture, wrinkles and laxity. Each tip utilizes 49 gold plated, titanium, sterile and insulated needles per tip that comfortably penetrate the skin to a controlled depths to stimulate the skin’s multiple regenerative growth factors, while the radio frequency provides an extra boost. The end result is rapid induction of collagen/elastin synthesis and smoothing of the skin surface with a natural,healthy, youthful glow.

What advantages does the Lutronic Genius have over other microneedling devices? 

The Genius features an improved needle tip design, new motor, increased accuracy of depth and penetration, and smart technology that measures tissue impedance to allow more control over the energy delivered. This results in minimal discomfort and maximal results. Actually Genius is one of the only treatments that generates not only collagen, but elastin as well, which promotes thicker, tighter and smoother skin.

Will the Genius cause skin discoloration to darker skin tones? 

This is a genuine concern with many cosmetic modalities. However, since the needles are insulated it only allows the RF energy to target the deeper dermis, bypassing the melanocytes (the particles that give our skin different shades of color) of the epidermis. Thus, the risk of discoloration is immensely reduced. In conjunction with our pre-and-post-procedure skin regimen protocol, we have not experienced an issue to date with skin discoloration. 

What does having a Genius treatment feel like?

We may use a topical anesthetic to ease the discomfort, which may be reduced to only tiny pin pricks. Some of our patients prefer to take an NSAID like ibuprofen and Tylenol, while others prefer PRO-NOX™, which is an oxygen and nitric oxide (laughing gas) pain management system controlled by the patient. The laughing gas in Pronox takes effect in seconds, offering immediate relief of pain and anxiety.

How long does the Genius procedure take? 

Expect the procedure to take 45 minutes to an hour.

How many Genius treatment sessions do I need? 

This ultimately depends on your condition, your goals and your desires, but we recommend a minimum of three sessions spaced about a month apart. 

How soon can results be noticed after a Genius procedure? 

We tell patients to expect full results a couple weeks after the last treatment in the series.

How long do the results last? 

This really depends on the desired outcome of the procedure. For example, active acne patients will notice that acne breakouts are prevented for a considerable time after completing a treatment cycle. If we’re treating aging skin and skin laxity, a full treatment cycle of three treatments and an annual maintenance treatment sustain lasting results.

What skin types can benefit from Genius? 

All skin types and colors can benefit, including those with darker skin and/or active acne.

What is the downtime associated with a Genius treatment?

 Usually one to two days or mild redness is apparent. Most of the redness and swelling will be completely resolved in less than a week 

Are there side effects associated with the Genius treatment? 

To date we have not experienced adverse effects, only the mild redness for about 3-5 days after treatment. 

 

What can you not do after the treatment? 

We recommend limiting sun exposure for about a week after treatment, or until the redness has completely disappeared after treatment. Also, touching and picking at your skin is strongly discouraged. We also discourage the use of makeup while healing.

What other procedures can be at the same time as Genius? 

For ultimate results adding  LaseMD after the genius for sun spots or melasma and PRP will greatly improve the outcome.

 

How do I care for the treated area after treatment?

For the first 24 hours it is best to let the skin heal itself without interference, only prescribed cleanser and toner twice a day. After that we place patients on a personalized skin regimen in an effort to optimize and sustain results.
