Also known as “text-neck” this new phenomenon is the creation of horizontal neck wrinkles and neck lines along the neck, as a result of constantly looking down at our phones and tablets. Tech neck treatment in Chicago has become a specialty of the Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Institute.
What is tech neck?
Tech neck is a newly adopted term for changes in skin appearance that result from prolonged and constant forward flexion of the neck as we concentrate on our cell phones, mobile devices, tablets and other technologies. Changes in the appearance of the neck skin can range from mild to severe horizontal folds and wrinkles, to minor scattered folds across the neck. Additionally, muscle aches and pains may set in and bone spurs can sometimes develop in severe cases.
What procedures can be done to help the tech-neck lines and wrinkles?
Botox is injected in diluted form and placed intradermally, which is a much different technique than the technique used for facial wrinkle Botox injections. The Botox calms the muscle contraction, which eases the appearance of the neck lines. Results are noticed in a week or two. The cost is about $400.
Dermal fillers several injectable products, including Juvederm, Restylane and Restylane Refyne, which are all hyaluronic acid-based fillers, can be used to fill the tech neck lines and wrinkles. These injections need to be repeated every six to 12 months, depending on the amount of product used and the severity of the lines. Results are immediate, and the procedure starts at $600 and goes up from there.
